The Bellefonte Historical Railroad (BHRX) operates over about seventy miles of track in central Pennsylvania. The route traversed by the BHRX stretches from the village of Lemont, past the Nittany Mall, through Axeman, and into Bellefonte and Milesburg; in addition, the BHRX operates excursion trains on the old Pennsylvania Railroad's route through the beautiful Bald Eagle Valley, the valley that separates the Allegheny Mountains from the Appalachian Mountains.
Here is a 1917 map of the area with BHRX trackage highlighted.
The BHRX is the only historical operation in the country that operates in concert with a Class-1 railroad. The main line--which the BHRX shares with freight trains of the Nittany & Bald Eagle Railroad and Norfolk Southern Corporation --extends from Tyrone to Lock Haven and runs through the villages of Beech Creek, Howard, Unionville, Julian, and Port Matilda.
All trains depart from the old Pennsylvania Railroad station on
320 West High Street in downtown Bellefonte.
